What is Topic Discovery?
The key purpose of the Topic Discovery tool is to assist with the topic research aspect of your content creation process. Popular use cases include:
To research your audience/demographic.
To research competitors.
To determine the popularity of a given topic.
To understand the current market sentiment surrounding your topic
Scripting an effective content research plan is often tedious (to say the least), requires a lot of resources, and typically takes hours out of your time. But using the Topic Discovery tool, you can create a comprehensive and comparative plan that covers all these aspects of research in just a few simple steps.
Watch the tutorial video or read the article below.
How does it work?
You can select the Topic Discovery tool either using the “+ New topic” prompt from the WriterZen home screen or the tool hub on the left. This will take you to the home page of the tool where you can set your preference from over 46 different languages and run your search in a multitude of demographics.
To discover topics related to your keyword of choice, simply enter your seed into the search bar and hit “Search”. In a few moments, this will take you to the results page where you can start analyzing the output. The search results are generated using our algorithm that crawls through the highest-ranked Google search results from both the Google Search and Google Suggestions database that is most relevant to your topic seed.
Some important metrics
Before we dive into how to interpret the results, let us look at some key metrics used throughout the tool:
Search Volume represents the number of times that a particular topic has been searched.
Relevancy describes the popularity of a particular topic among users, hence, relevance to your seed.
Related Searches display a set of topics more distantly related to your seed than the results, but also may be worth considering.
Insights display topics sorted by commonly searched categories by users.
Understanding the results page
The first thing to notice about this page is the comparison of the seed to both exact search matches and other similar or close matches sorted by “Relevancy”. This means that these clusters provide the most popular hits for the use of this particular seed.
You can also set these clusters to be ordered by “Search volume” which shows the number of times the seed (or topics closely related to the seed) have been searching for in your selected demographic.
If you click on the “Show ideas” prompt underneath a specific topic cluster, it will display a drop-down of relevant insights for each headline in that cluster. Here, you can sort your results according to various metrics such as “Search Volume” (or hits), “Related Searches”, and “Relevancy” (as High/Medium/Low).
You can also filter the results using “Google Suggest Insights”. This section displays the results of the top search cases related to your seed in the form of “Questions”. “Prepositions”, and “Comparisons”.
Overall
Understanding and combining all the elements of Topic Discovery will enable you to quickly and conclusively decide on a base to start your content writing. By knowing how your audience thinks and what your competitors have created, you can easily get ahead of the competition by creating a complete and comprehensive content outline/brief using any given seed to generate high-ranking content. This will save you time, resources, and a whole lot of stress.
